I was born in 2003 with deformed toes on my left foot and partially deformed toes on my right foot due to ABS.
As a child, I was bullied and was very insecure about my “defect,” even though I could move just as well as a normal person could. When I was in second grade, I told myself I could never wear open-toed shoes outside and would be forced to keep my toes a secret or I would never get friends or a boyfriend.
As I grew older, I became more confident in myself and began wearing sandals again, telling people my story and about how blessed I am to be able to move and participate in sports and physical activities, and eventually being able to joke with the little kids (and sometimes adults) who stare and ask rude questions.
I am now in high school and am well on my way to playing for the school softball team, and I hope to inspire people with my story as I grow older ๐
