My name is Oliver Leett and I am a recently qualified PGA Professional at Ross on Wye Golf Club. I have been working with Head PGA Professional Tim Hall for just over a year and I am exited for the bright future ahead.
I was born at Watford General Hospital in 1988 and I was unfortunate enough to be born with Amniotic Band Syndrome. Due to this symptom I have strange finger defigureation on both hands which can cause a limitation from time to time.
I started playing golf with my uncle from a very young age and the game grasped me straight away. I joined my local club Penrhos Golf a club which is on the west coast of Wales at the age of 11. I soon got my handicap and was playing and winning men’s competitions at the age of 13. I enjoyed a successful amateur career getting down to a handicap of 3 with the highlight getting into the welsh U16s squad.
In 2010 I decided to follow my dream and become a professional golfer. I was offered a role as Assistant professional under PGA Professional Simon Harrison at Lilley Brook Golf Club in Cheltenham. The PGA pathway seemed perfect for me as I had an interest in developing junior golf and helping fellow members improving their games!
It has been a tough 3 years, the Foundation degree was a challenge especially as English was my second language through my primary and secondary schools years.
The PGA course has taught me many life skills over the past three years. The coaching part is fantastic and the avenue in which I wish to specialize in. Working with all ages and abilities I find it increasingly rewarding. Having worked with 20 primary schools and 5 secondary schools I think it’s fair to say success has been pretty good. I also have played a big role in developing the junior sections at Lilley Brook and at Ross on Wye Golf Club where I am currently situated. At both clubs I implemented a junior academy section which gives kids a clear pathway from school coaching with Tri golf to becoming full junior members. This has been something that has been highly successful and something I am extremely proud of.
The business side of the course was also a great help. I now spend many hours a week with Tim evaluating our weekly figures. Concentrating on profit margin, stock turns and stock hold being a key feature to a successful business in my opinion.
The playing side has also been great for me averaging playing in 10 pro ams a year. Taking members out for the day in pro ams have been a great offering for my members as we all love a day out. But also great for me building my coaching cliental.
Throughout the past year I have played with 3 different members a week. This has been great for me to get to no members and great for members to get to know me. At the end of each round I will write a shot report to each member sharing my views on their game which in turn has produced a full coaching diary.
The future is bright working closely with Tim who has recently been awarded Foremost Professional of the Year. With a Indoor swing studio being put in place in March with Foresight sports, gasp technology and company support from Nike golf and ping it’s very much an exiting time.
There is also a indoor putting studio also being put into place for myself. I have grown to be known as the putting specialist coach at Ross so I have invested into a Sam putt lab and vector green reading system to help me over come the life target, to be the best putting coach in the world. This is a big life target and something I am a long way from but with hard work, passion and sheer determination I will get there one day
