Cameron’s ABS Story

My son, Cameron, was born Sept 24, 2012 with parts of his fingers and toes missing (amputated in utero), some fused (stuck together) and some deformed (twisted/banded/smaller or larger). It affected the digits (fingers and toes) from all four limbs.

After many losses, a lot of help from doctors and meds to help maintain my pregnancy and an extremely rough several months, my doctor scheduled an induction for me to be started on Oct 1st (one week prior to my due date) but our little man had other plans.

Jeremy’s ABS Story

The Pushing Life of Jeremy Duong

I’m Jeremy, a son, middle child of one older brother and one younger sister. I was born with “amniotic band syndrome.” They actually gave my mom a choice to abort me or continue the pregnancy, so my mom continued but she went through so much to have me. Being stuck with amniotic band syndrome that forever I had surgery 5 times and my leg amputated it was a struggle for me.

For example,

Lamar Xavier Dunn

On August 2, 2008 at 11:47pm my son, Lamar was born premature at 32 weeks at 4lbs 4ozs. My first words to my son was ‘He is so hairy’, I saw nothing and felt nothing else but happiness. The very next day when I awoke in the hospital I replayed the eight months of my pregnancy. I felt lost and had lots of questions that I could not answer. It finally hit me that my son is an amputee, Lamar was born with Amniotic Band Syndrome.

De’Vante’s ABS Story

14 months ago on October 20,2009 I gave birth to my little bundle of joy, De’Vante. He was born with ABS which caused him 2 have a below the knee amputation in urtero on his left leg. On top of that, he was also born with fused fingers and toes on his left hand and right foot.

Before I had my first ultrasound, I had never heard anything about ABS…and I would have never dreamed it could happen to my child because I was so careful during my pregnancy.

Andrew David’s ABS Story

Andrew David is 9 months old and he was born missing his right hand and forearm from below his elbow joint. I found out when I was having an ultrasound for the first time there was a possibility that my baby boy might not have a right hand. They sent me to a maternal fetal doctor in Wichita Kansas and it was then I found out my son was in fact missing his arm from the bottom of his elbow down. They told me it was really good that he had a elbow joint.

Angel’s ABS Story

Angel Christopher Rodriguez Jr was born on February 24, 2003 in Mesa, Arizona. He was born without his left hand below the elbow due to Amniotic Band Syndrome. I didn’t know anything about ABS, had never even heard of it. I will never forget the day I gave birth and when my son entered this world.

I had my first ultra sound done when I was 20 weeks pregnant. We went and everything appeared fine. They took the measurements and everything was there.

Ariana’s ABS Story

Ariana was born missing her left forearm down on March 20th, 2005 in Christiana, Delaware. When I went for the ultrasound to determine the sex I was so excited because I just knew they were going to tell me that she was a girl and they did, the man doing the ultrasound said that he had to measure her and make sure that everything was okay and that it would just be a few more minutes then what seemed like an eternity later he said I can’t find her other hand.

Berkley’s ABS Story

My daughter Berkley Lauren Harmon was born without her left hand on November 7, 2005. She was also part of a twin that passed when I was almost 3 months pregnant.

My initial reaction was extreme shock, hurt, pain, and denial. I was a complete mess. I cried for almost 4 months. I didn’t understand what happened. I never used drugs, smoked or anything. Why Me? I asked. I realized that there is no answer.

Now, 14 months later,

Brooklyn’s ABS Story

My daughter Brooklyn who is 3 now was born with no right hand, like many people on here my wife and I had never heard of ABS. When she was born there was an initial shock that I think most people who have children born with a physical deformity. We had no idea from any ultrasound that she was going to be born with no hand, so needless to say we shocked. I did not really know what to expect, you have so many questions,

Cameron’s ABS Story

Cameron was born on September 28th, 2002. He was born missing his left hand below the wrist. He is now 3 years old and goes about like any other three year old child. He is currently starting to play hockey thanks to his hockey device he received from his prosthetic center recently. I once thought I could not handle the guilt of my child being born missing a limb, but have since realized it’s not something we did, it was God who has special plans for him.
