I knew that having my daughter was not only going to change my life, but that she was heaven sent. This is a complete understatement. Here is my story…
During that time in my life I was involved in a very tumultuous relationship. I was shocked to find out I was pregnant as I was told I would never be able to conceive. I did on Valentines Day that year. The day after I found out I was pregnant I started bleeding.

My name is Charlotte and I was born on February 13, 1974. When I was born, the doctors called my condition Congenital Binding. No one knew what it was and I had lived most of my life not really knowing exactly what had happened. With help from my mother and her new family doctor, whom she began seeing a few years ago, they were able to pinpoint the cause.
When my mother was 4 months into her pregnancy, her water broke.

My name is Cindy, I was born in July of 1971. I am 37 years old now.
I was born with severe congenital birth defects to my left hand and legs caused from Amniotic Band Syndrome.
When I was born my mother was told that there were issues; the doctor actually unwrapped a black string like object from around my fingers on my left hand in front of her. The string came out from between the center two fingers which were webbed together with a nubbin protruding atop one finger.

My name is Elin and I am 28 years old. I just found out that I had ABS. I was surfing the internet about my “deformed” fingers on both hand and on toes on right foot. The doctors in Norway just called it syndactaly.
In addition to ABS I have Neurofibromatosis. To learn more about this disorder you l can go to http://www.nf.org.
My “deformed” fingers haven’t stopped me from doing what I want to do. ABS effected both of my hands and my right foot.

Hello. I am so glad my fiance found this site. I am nearly 21 years old and I have never met anyone with any deformities like mine. It is so easy to feel like an outsider with deformities such as mine, and I was very interested to be able to read other people’s stories. Here is a brief caption of my story:
I as born on December 31, 1984. I was the first child in my family and the only born with these deformities.

Hello, my name is Jeanine and I was born in 1983 with Amniotic Band Syndrome. ABS affected four fingers on my left hand, my left arm above the elbow and my right leg was about an inch shorter and clubbed.
I had my first surgery in June of 1986. By the age of 2 after 13 surgeries my parents started to loose count, and I have had many more since then. The fingers on my left hand were webbed but I had surgery to separate them.

Growing up a little different from other kids in my area was, at times, hellish. ABS affected most of the digits on my right hand as well as toes on both feet. Other children didn’t make fun of the situation as much as they would shy away. They didn’t understand and didn’t want to hurt my feelings by asking.
Recalling the first occasion where someone did get the courage up to ask (I think I might have been 8, maybe 9),

My name is Katie, and I have nine fingers. I have about 1/4 of my middle finger on my right hand. I’m right handed, though, and the missing finger still makes it hard to write, which slows me down a bit at school sometimes.
After reading so much on this site, I consider myself one of the lucky ones. One missing finger and that’s it. The amniotic band wrapped around my whole right hand, and I still have marks from it on my other fingers,

I was born in 1979 with Amniotic Band Syndrome. There was a band around my left leg just above my knee. I was born with a club foot and extremely diminished feeling. On my right foot my first three toes were affected. Both of my hands were also affected. I have my thumb and index fingers on both hands. The rest of my fingers grew together. Sort of like a duck’s webs.
I’ve had about fourteen surgeries. You lose track after a while.
