Miranda’s ABS Story

February 16th is a day that will always be remembered clearly to me. That was the first day I would hear the term, “Amniotic Band Syndrome”.

I was a mother of two when I got pregnant with Miranda, and even though my boyfriend and I had no desire to have another baby, one was coming and we had to prepare. I called the ob/gyn and made an appointment to start my prenatal care. I was put on the schedule to come in the following week.

Colleen’s ABS Story

Hi all! I am thrilled to have found this website. I never really researched my deformity nor have I really ever accepted it. I also have never met anyone with my deformity and it really was just out of the blue that I got on the computer and began to search for information about ABS. I am 22 years old and as others have written it is very easy to feel like an outsider, however, after finding this website, I finally have the courage to post my story and “come out” if you will,

Hope’s ABS Story

My name is Hyla Hope Harder. I was born June 1, 1943. At that time no one said ABS or Constriction Band Syndrome so my parents were only told that my left hand and right foot had “gotten caught” in my mother’s womb. The large toe on my foot and the toe next to the large toe had gone into necrosis from strangulation so the day after I was born, one and 1/2 toes had to be amputated.

I had the two most wonderful parents in the world.

Jamie’s ABS Story

Hello. I am so glad my fiance found this site. I am nearly 21 years old and I have never met anyone with any deformities like mine. It is so easy to feel like an outsider with deformities such as mine, and I was very interested to be able to read other people’s stories. Here is a brief caption of my story:

I as born on December 31, 1984. I was the first child in my family and the only born with these deformities.

Jim’s ABS Story

Growing up a little different from other kids in my area was, at times, hellish. ABS affected most of the digits on my right hand as well as toes on both feet. Other children didn’t make fun of the situation as much as they would shy away. They didn’t understand and didn’t want to hurt my feelings by asking.

Recalling the first occasion where someone did get the courage up to ask (I think I might have been 8, maybe 9),
